She loves working with her hands and a lutherie course quickly becomes her source of inspiration. Singer-songwriter Anique Granger definitely has her work cut out for her! With stories for every season and melodies so sweet you want to can them in a Mason jar, Anique’s home made songs sing the tools she has acquired. On a road trip led by her guitar, Anique moves through her music like a breath of fresh air, stirring emotions and tugging at heart strings with both strength and vulnerability.
Fransaskoise (that is, francophone from Saskatchewan) and now living in Montreal, Anique began her career as co-founder of the duo Polly-Esther. The group released 3 albums (Les cent pas : Outstanding Francophone recording at the Western Canadian Music Awards in 2003) and toured extensively for a decade. Her first solo album, Pépins, launched in 2008, has led her across Canada and abroad, from the Vancouver Olympic Games to Longest Night in Whitehorse, from Canada Day in Gatineau to la Fête Fransaskoise in Batoche. She has also graced the stages of L’Estival St-Germain-en-Laye and Les Déferlantes in France, and of Pully à l’heure du Québec as well as Festival Voix de Fête in Switzerland, just to name a few.
Winner of a Trille-Or prize for best Western-Canadian artist in 2009, Anique remains very present on the francophone music scene. Blessed with a shy charm and surprising humor, her lyrics are thought provoking and her « joie de vivre », foot-tapping. Her folk influences reveal strong “finger style” playing, a surprising control of her instrument and a clear desire to always surpass herself.
Les outils qu’on a (The tools that we have) : In this much anticipated second album, the artist reveals herself completely. Her passions, her demons and her dreams are woven into a modern folk sound both uncompromising and unpretentious. Produced by Rick Haworth (Daniel Bélanger, Sylvie Paquette, Michel Rivard, Lhasa De Sela) Les outils qu’on a is inspired by Anique’s passion for building and creating with her own two hands ; right down to the instruments she plays! She is shaping her own world. Accompanied by her longtime bandmates, she rolls up her sleeves and lures the listener in, one song at a time, one emotion flowing into the next.
